Quick Blogcast 2.0.4 Overage protection

Greetings,

QuickBlogcast 2.04 was released earlier today and while  we could describe this release as iconic  it would sadly be leading us into yet another pun filled post, I promise I'll get help but only after telling you about these new features.

Bandwidth overage protection

While most people never get near their monthly allotment of bandwidth there are occasions where the world beating a path to your door can lead to an unexpected monthly charge, even though they are usually small the keyword here is unexpected. We now have a setting that allows you to stop incurring charges on a blog once it's crossed the monthly threshold. A  full explanation of this feature is within a separate post.  The default option is off  and can be changed here  Manage Blog  > settings > General

 Added support for  Fav icons

Most of you have noticed the icons that appear to the right off the URL in the address bar and which mirror the identity/graphical identity  the site/blog they are attached to.We'll be adding a tutorial on how to create ICO files but for those of you that already have one you can  get started by going to  Manage Blog  > settings > General and uploading your new Fav Icon.

 Firefox Spellcheck

We've given the option for Firefox users to use the browsers inbuilt spell checker within all relevant text areas of your blog. It can be enabled under Manage Blog  > settings > Entries  by checking the selection “Enable Firefox spell checker”.
All of these features derived from conversations with our customers and if there's anything you'd like to see  us address we'd love to hear from you

I enjoy that we can have a bandwidth protector, but will we have a way to determine our bandwidth usage? Get a total of the downloads and where they are coming from? Instead of just "plays" on the site?

      Andrew,

While we have the  account stats on the way in  if you login from the manager your account side it's not  been  carried forward into the application. It's certainly an area I want to improve upon and   items such as   month to date usage tied to the requestor is in the plans for a future version.

Is there any plans for a "top comments" add-on?

What about a feature to show how many post views next to the title of the post?

    Here's my last question...

My very latest blog entry is posted so that the entire post is visible. Every other post after my latest has a excerpt. My only problem is that after every new blog post I have to go back into the post before that and make an exerpt. Is there a way to automatically show my latest blog post in it's entirety and have every other post show an excerpt without me having to manually do this?

    Thanks a billion!

Firstly the good news.  We do have a "top comments" view but we call it Showcase. You can find that within the sidebar settings under design blog.  You can then select comments within manage entries comments to "add to showcase.

On the excerpt choice that's a model that we don't support presently.   Showing the numbers of views is a bit of a challenge since we can't assume that everyone hitting the main page is a hit against the main entry everytime  versus those  accessing an entry directly. It would work well on the latter but I'm not sure how to solve the former issue.

A suggestion for a future version: make clicking on the header of the blog (or text of the header, like the title) automatically take people back to the main page. I know that I can use html to allow people to click on the title of my blog to go back to the main page, but I don't like the look of having hyperlinked text as the title.

It seems like a fairly common convention to be able to click on the title of a blog and return to the home page, but Quickblog doesn't do it.

      Greetings,

The future is here today, ok it was here sooner but I forgot to mention the change on the blog when it was released.

Under design blog, customize we have a field called Header Link URL which should provide the functionality you are looking for.

        Hi,
I tried this and it seems to open a new window to the home page instead of staying in the same window. Any way to remedy that?

        Thanks,
        Randy

          Greetings Randy,

I've not been able to reproduce a case where switching  the overage feature on/ off causes a new window to appear.  Could you let me, or one of the support staff ( linked under the "need help" within the program know what browser/ OS you are using and the steps taken to recreate it and we'll investigate this further.

          Regards

            Sorry,
I my question pertained to clicking on the header title. I inserted the url to my blog in the Header Link URL, and when I click on the title of my blog, it opens the home page in a new window.

            Mac OS 10.4.10
FireFox, Safari, Opera, Omniweb, Seamonkey, Camino, all the latest versions.
            Thanks,

              Randy,

Thanks for the clarification.Currently the header URL  it's fixed to open a new window as originally it was envisioned as links to another site rather than  navigation within the blogcast itself. The home link in the sidebar  duplicates the same function.  We could make this a choice within a future version of the program to allow this to either open a new page/ replace existing ones.

My vote would be for the default to be NOT to have it open in a new window/tab. Another suggestion: Can we have a "previous entries" link in the footer for people to scroll back chronologically?

                  Greetings,

You know I've always wanted the previous link within the post footer too. Thank you for the reminder  and comment on the default for the header image we'll be considering those for a future release.
