Six Themes over Quick Blog

Another six themes have been gently deposited within Quick Blog. These replacements for existing templates have an enhanced feature set and a full recap of the benefits and features we've added can be found in our previous entry “never more

Please note these changes can not be retroactively applied to an existing template of the same name without replacing / modifying the existing images. If you're happy with your old template there's no need to take any action.

Quick Blog Team

Is there a sample of the new templates that have been added?

      Greetings,

A great question and one I hope to answer soon.  I'll be moving this blog over to a new template in the near future  which will better illustrate the changes.  In the future we'll add full previews of the templates once the conversion process has been completed.

Once I have an idea of what I am doing on my own, do I no longer need quick blog, or do I need it forever? If I drop it do I loose everything that I have on my blog?

      Greetings Tony,

Much as we'd like you to have Quick Blog "forever"   should the program no longer contain features you need or you  enjoy maintaining and creating your own blog ( we do) then  like our other services it would cease soon after cancellation.

While we're sorry to see you go we do provide a means to export your  entries, comments and trackbacks for importing into another blog ( Many  blogs also can take this information from your feed)    When you cancel  there's a period of grace  were we still have your blog available, should you have a change of heart, before we delete it.

I've started a QB and was wondering whether I can include Technorati tags.
    Thanks Mark

      Greetings Mark,

There are a several ways to do this. One's is already automatic based on the categories in the blog's rss feed. If you have the option to notify other service on then the ping to pingomatic  should be notifying Techorati of the updates. Obviously that could lead to  having many categories.   ( not really a problem just some people don't like that)

For individual entries the tags can be manually created in HTML mode or an easier solution is to use a third party client like MS Live writer or  Scribefire which are far friendlier ( though I hope to add this into an upcoming release)
There's more info on the creation of  tags here.

Could you add support to the template so verification codes can be added for Google sitemaps? This is done using the meta tag below. The key value would obviously vary per site, and the meta tag is placed in the head section of the home page document.

Any way to have unique title tags for pages would also be a big step forward. Currently mine are all blog name. Can you concatenate blog name + article name to make the title?

      Greetings,

Firstly  I totally agree with you regarding the need to  create the  page title tags in the manner suggested and will be putting that into an upcoming release.  Sitemaps are a little more  interesting though. We can use that method you specified,  or we can create them automatically ourselves requiring less interaction from the user.  Since  it's a standard feature now of several engines it may make sense.

Thanks for the reply. The sitemap would be good if you created it, but the user could 'verify' the site with google sitemaps admin account. This gives access to collected stats (and is very useful).

Would there be any possibility of adding to the editing front end the capability to add media files? By this I mean a button, when clicked you could select a remote WMV file (by URL) and you would then embed the player into the blog post. I find trying to figure out the corret code to embed WMV/Media Player a bit 'odd' with Quick Blog. A lot of BB Code / Nuke Forums would support this 'with a single click'.

          Greetings,

That's likely the format the sitemap will take.   As to the addition of media  we have a convuluted way of doing this that you can  work around but it's needing improvement. Ie loading the file to your blog or hosting account then embedding a player into the HTML to reference it.  Mostly I just upload my Media to one of the video hosting sites and then paste their player in .   We already have this feature on our "to do" list and we're looking forward to including it in a later release.

When I took an account with Quick Blog, there was a feature for adding a Blog title of my choice. It seems like that feature is no longer supported with the new Quick Blog update. Currently, the Page title is blank and will feature that way if at all found in search results. Without a proper Blog Title, the purpose of the blog gets defeated. May I suggest that this feature be brought back.

      Greetings,

The missing page title was a  bug that we fixed a day or so back .  To see the fix just republish your template and the title tag will be restored.   Sprry for the inconvenience.
