Can I have a Sidebar? Twitter and Bio items added.
Your Honor may I approach the Blog for a sidebar,or two?: The latest release of Quick Blog introduces two new sidebar items plus several improvements to the stability of the program.
Bio ( Who are you? )
Many people have requested that we provide an Author or biography sidebar item which gives a precis of the author, the blog and even an image should you desire. While there's only a limited amount of information one can fit into the sidebar you can link to another entry , or entries, within your blog and take it from there. I like blogs with these mini biographies since I often find blog entries via a search engine and have no idea if that single entry is indicative of that blog's content ,and should subscribe ,or if had I lucked out and found the only post that person ever wrote that I would find interesting. A short “about me” helps to clear up that question far quicker than having to read through a slough of posts.
Twitter ( What are you doing?)
Nearly everyone, at least everyone that counts, has a blog these days. Isn't it time that your blog had a blog too? For those of you using twitter you can skip the next part and head to the sidebar settings to get your Twitter badge up and running.
If you are not familiar with Twitter then it can maybe be summed up by a question.
“What are you doing?”
You can post the answer to this in under 140 characters which then updates your twitter account which can be displayed in a sidebar item on your blog. . It may not appear immediately useful but when you combine the ability to update your blog by phone, IM client and if you must you can use a web browser to create a “mini blog” on your blog you and your friends can come up with some interesting ways to use it. You can find out more over at www.twitter.com
Both of these items can be located under the design blog / Sidebar tab. Enjoy.

I'm new to this blogging. I want to be able to post my feeds directly into a website, rather than an RSS reader. Is there a stable way to do this? I've tried some of the RSS converters, but they are invariably down. Any ideas?
Dear Carol G
Firstly let me apologize for the response time. This is one of those issues which has many many answers though they depend very much on the kind of hosting account you intend to run them on and how much space you wish to take up. While it's outwith our normal purview if you can give me more information on the intended use I should be able to suggest a couple of approaches.

Things I'd like to see added to the Blog:
The ability to insert pictures into blog entries and then select how text should be arrayed around the blog entry.
The ability to choose post in a column format that does not require inserting a table.
I'm looking forward to having templates that allow posting on more of the screen that what is currently offered. Nowadays, screens are set up to allow for much more text on the page, and what I've seen so far in the templates, there is still much improvement to be made as far as allowing use of more of the screen for posting.
It would be nice to choose the alternative cover of the background for the area that is not available to blog entries. Some of the color combinations of the existing templates are quite hideous and it would be nice to set up our own color schemes.
The color of the text of many of the templates is too light. Why not just use black instead some of these washed out grays?
Julie,
Firstly the grey text indeed is too light and all of the replacement templates ( we have around 20/50) converted so far all have a high contrast ( black or white) font. If you want to do that on an existing template reply back with the blog details and I can manually change it .
With regards to the picture formatting there are blog clients such as Live writer, ecto and I think Scribefire which give you more formatting options than the blogs text window. This is certainly an area we can improve upon but for now those would be your best bet. Look in the how to's category on how to set one of those programs up.
The other issues are all template based that we're in the process of changing over to CSS based templates which is our first step towards offering the level of control you've requested. Thank you for taking the time to let us know how to improve the program.

I'm looking to upload files to the blogcast so that I can link to them in the sidebar. Basically, I would like to have the ability for someone to click on a file in a sidebar list and download-open the file. Is this possible? Doesn't seem to be....
Jerry,
The blog's not really set up to do this but , it's possible to copy the file location into a sidebar item and have it open. Depending on the type of file my answer may be different so any more information on what you are trying to achieve, e.g what type of file, would be useful

I have tried to use the Twitter sidebar component but I only get an error of "undefined" rather than Twitter updates. I am using Linux and the latest PHP. Can you tell me how to get Twitter to work?
Greetings Allison,
What may be occurring is that we only allow for publicly accessible posts from Twitter. It looks like your twitter account ( I'm just guessing based on the blog name and twitter/blogname doesn't allow that presently. You would need to uncheck "protect my updates" from within your settings in Twitter. Additionally the browser you are using may not have been tested with blogcast so if you are still seeing issues after trying that please let me know.
