On Permalinks
Permalinks are one of the cornerstones of blogging. I think we've got an excellent implementation of them and I'd like to take a moment to explain how we did things. Armed with this knowledge, you can take advantage of permalinks for fun and profit.
Each entry is designated by a unique URL that is permanent once it's put in the published status. Prior to publication, though, you can change it to whatever you want. If you don't change it, it will default to /year/month/day/title-separated-by-dashes. If there happens to be another entry with the same title, then a number is appended to the end to make it unique. The permalink is a very important part of an entry from a search engine perspective. It's one of the pieces of data that a search engine uses to determine what your entry is about and it's one of the things that will appear on a search results page. You owe it to yourself to make sure that the permalink accurately reflects the content of the entry. This entry, for example, has the title "On Permalinks" but I've changed the permalink to the more descriptive "how-to-craft-successful-permalinks." (Dashes are used because Google interprets them as word separators.)
If you use punctuation in your title, the permalink will not contain it. And that omission might change the meaning of the words in the permalink. So before you save your entry, take a second and decide if the likely permalink will help you or hurt you in the search results.

Thanks for the information. I've never done anything with this feature because I didn't understand it's purpose.
So what your saying is to always create a PL before you publish?
Why this web site uses Godaddy's Quickblog application
Well, I often don't bother with it because my titles are good enough. If anything, I like to save as draft to see what Quick Blog comes up with and then modify it if I don't like it.
Glad you like it, Bill
Okay now I understand this feature. When first testing it out, I thought that I was doing something wrong. Now I understand that my titles are better than the ones that are created with a permalink.
Any more features planned for the near future that you can discuss?
I'm glad to hear that you're a better permalinker now! Unfortunately, we cannot discuss planned features until they're new features. Believe me, we'd all love to talk about the cool stuff we're working on but features get added and cut from releases all the time. So I understand the desire to keep a lid on new features until they're actually out there.
Thanks for your question, Bill
