Post an entry from Digg™ to Quick Blog.

Digg.Com is another service that the new remote blogging feature allows you to send posts directly to your Quick blog. For those of you unfamiliar with Digg think of it as the front page of the newspaper edited by the readers.

The content of Digg™ is voted on by its users.  A member of the community submits a story of interest, posts it with comments and then other members of the community decide its relative merit.  To “Digg it” or “Bury it.”  The most dug are elevated to the front page while the unloved vanish into the morass of anonymity to resurface in your local newspaper’s technology section two weeks from now. 

With categories including Science, Entertainment, Politics and Technology, you’re sure to find a story of interest to comment upon in your blog.

If’ you have already set up “Remote blogging” then you can skip the next paragraph.

You can use the new remote blogging feature but first we have to enable Remote blogging.  Remote blogging can be found under “Manage Blog” > “Settings” and select the “Remote blogging” tab.   Now create a username and password that’s different from your main blog login (we’ll remind you if it’s not) and save these settings.  This user name and password applies only to the main blog account. Sub Authors can use their existing log in and password.

Let’s tell Digg where your Quick Blog lives.  Log into your account and enter the “profile + settings  page” .   Select “Edit” from the “Blogging preferences” section and then set it using the below information.

Type of Blog:                                     Setup Manually
Blog Api:                                            Metaweblog
Enter your username and password:
Your blog url:                                     http://www.yourblogname.com
URL for XML-RPC of Blog:                   http://www.yourblogname.com/metaweblog.aspx

Save changes.

You can now post from Digg to your Quickblog using the “blog this” link on any story.

I tried using the instructions to enable blogging from Digg to my own blog. Digg returns the following error:
"transport error - HTTP status code was not 200"

What gives? I think I set up everything exactly as given but feel that Digg has probably changed the way it works.

Hmm, it was definitely working when John wrote it up. I'll look into it later and let you know what I find out.

      Thanks, Bill

    John/Bill;

Still haven't figured out what the URL expected at Digg is (I followed your example to the letter!) researched till I'm blue in the face (via google). Also came across same issue here: http://www.spicypage.com/

That XML-RPC thing is picky! Help please.

I put in a trouble report with Digg, giving most relevant info on getting this to work. also, any help with feedflare (is it even possible given that they speak of putting code into 'your template'?) sigh... i wish i had more control over the css/template area, yup yup!

       Greetings,

Feedflare runs off the RSS feed and doesn't , least to the examples I've used,  require any modification of the template, not that someone couldn't create a situation in which it would be useful to do so  just that I don't think it's common.

I agree entirely with regards to the templates. Look out for future updates on that

Digg is a wonderful invention and having just integrated my Digg posts with quick blogcast I have say that the option to ‘one-click-blog’ my Diggs is simply marvellous. This is a really excellent feature and one I recommend to be added to the ‘arsenal’ of all members of the blogosphere.
